Templeton’s future quality of life depends on the actions you take today.
On December 6, 2024 over 400 Community members attended a Special Town Meeting where a moratorium and a bylaw against plastic incineration were unanimously voted in. Be informed: click links below. Learn more about meeting here.
Templeton Community Against Toxic Waste unites people who value health, natural resources, neighborhoods, clean economic development, and oppose environmental pollution.
Families here - again! - face a terrible threat to health and quality of life. At the same property that exposed residents to cancer causing chemicals, like dioxins soaking lawns where children play, is now a plan for an industrial size plastic waste incinerator spewing contamination 24/7. It’s called, “chemical recycling”, aka, “advanced recycling.”, to hide what it actually is. It’s not recycling: it’s incineration!
Planned to be built here in Baldwinville, a thickly settled village, on Winchendon’s town line, to transport up to 500 tons of plastic waste in town to burn every day. Such plants are known to bring increased fire risk, explosions, dust, diesel smoke, toxic, cancer-causing emissions, noise pollution, hazardous waste, and decreased quality of life.
Our state would regulate a waste plastic incineration plant as solid waste disposal. The EPA defines it as solid waste incineration. The primary output, flammable pyrolysis oil, is planned to be transported by rail tank cars through many other communities on its way to be refined into toxic fuels; risking derailment disasters similar to East Palestine Ohio along the way. Little or no plastic is actually recycled. Other outputs are flammable gas and char. What’s left: toxic emissions, PFAS, micro-plastics…would enter your air and water.
Let’s not risk another train derailment with burning toxic plastic.

They want to build plant at 24 Holman Street, off Route 202, on RR line, above 6 on map.
TAKE ACTION!
Let your local & state representatives know YOU do not want hundreds of tons of plastic waste per day incinerated in our town. Urge them to bring safe AND healthy jobs to our area instead!
The most alarming of all man's assaults upon the environment is the contamination of air, earth, rivers, and sea with dangerous and even lethal materials. This pollution is for the most part irrecoverable; the chain of evil it initiates not only in the world that must support life but in living tissues is for the most part irreversible. In this now universal contamination of the environment, chemicals are the sinister and little-recognized partners of radiation in changing the very nature of the world-the very nature of its life.
